Yes, Nakamichi uses a slightly different head alignment procedure that do most other manufacturers, but it should not result in a significant difference in most cases - it certainly should not deter you from getting a Nak deck - the Nak decks tend to be so much better than the competition that tapes will still sound better with them. I have not noticed any significant problems playing pre-recorded tapes or importing/exporting tapes from my Nak 680ZX to other cassette decks. BTW, I believe Nak uses the CORRECT procedure and the other guys are wrong (correct me if I'm wrong on this) for head alignment. Bill Mitchell (ihnp4!lcuxc!wjm)

I also own a 680ZX and a 4 channel dbx 124. The method of head alignment is indeed unique (and better), but I beleive that all Nakamichis have a slightly non-standard playback equalization with a kick-up in the high end.
