[] Several years ago I had the chance to A-B Electrovoice Sentrys vs my beloved Altec A-7's at an outdoor two-day Bluegrass Festival where we used all of them together. The Altec's blew the Sentrys away. Much smoother, wider range, "sweeter". No experience with Peaveys or TOA. I understand that some models of Carvin speakers are very good (but then some aren't and its hard to know which without a demo). While I'm turned on, let me mention Bose (PA spkrs). Thet have to be heard to be believed. You need to stack two pairs, but then you're in business. In some situations I would even pick them over MBA's (My Beloved Altecs). An indoor wide coverage job woujld be one example - like a shopping center. But for controlled outdoor or all around loud clear clean sound, I haven't yet heard better than the A-7. Perhaps that's why Altec has to keep making them after --35 years or there abouts. They are not pretty, and they are an sob to move, even with rollers installed, but....sigh. -- "It's the thought, if any, that counts!" Dick Grantges hound!rfg
