Does anybody have any firsthand experience with either the Ohm Walsh II's or Walsh IV's? I will be buying speakers withing the next year, and I have been considering both of them (depends directly on my financial situation at purchase time...) I've demo'ed both at an audio store and was quite impressed by both. The prices I've seen are $800 and $1500 a pair, respectively. *** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR MESSAGE *** I have had a pair of the Walsh IV's since last April. I've been quite pleased with them except for the requests from the neighbors to TURN IT DOWN -:). The environment they are living in is a fairly "typical" apartment living room: 8' ceilings, 25' * 15', 2 sofas, tables, TV, small piano, not much on the walls. They are being driven by 2 SWTP 250 W amps (1 mono amp per side), primary signal source is CD. As I said, I like them A LOT: very natural uncolored sound, large sound stage, super imaging, excellent transients, and wide frequency response. I previously had a pair of F's, and mangaged to destroy one of the drivers. I called the factory and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse: $800 + 2 F drivers (any condition) for the IV's. This deal may still be on, so if you can find some dead F's ... The IV's are MUCH more bulletproof and better protected than the F's. Good listening! I've had a pair of Ohm Walsh 2's for a long time -- something like 1 1/2 years -- and am very pleased with them. The Walsh 4's sound very similar to me -- I tried an A/B test recently and could not tell the difference using the hard rock album I was sampling, but symphonic music may reveal differences. The specs indicate that the 4 reproduces lower notes than the 2 can do, but I probably can't hear that anymore since I played in a rock band in college! A few months after I bought my 2's, I heard a pair of Bose speakers, which also follow the philosophy of non-directional sound, and thought I liked those better, but without an A/B test it could just be another case of "the grass is always greener ...". At any rate, I can't see spending all that money for the 4's when the 2's will do almost as well.

I had a pair of the Ohm F that utilized a walsh driver at roughly $1200 in '81. The speakers were fantastic until '83 when they sudddenly lost it. Poor sound, ovedriving themselves, etc. I asked my dealer an he said almost every F he sold had that problem. I switched to a pr. of Bose 901 at his expense and have been very pleased. If the new Ohm speakers are more durable I would say fine, but if their drivers are as delicate as the original then save your money. If you can find them the ohm I is outrageous. Give a listen...
