I just spent the afternoon looking at boom boxes, and came away rather impressed with the Yamaha PC-8. Does anyone have any experience with this, or other units in the same price range ($350)? This model has some pretty nice features that I couldn't find elsewhere: o dolby B/C NR o auto reverse cassette o 15 watts/channel o wooden speaker cabinets o the obligatory 5 band graphic equalizer o phono input o synthesizer input & mixer o the usual AM/FM stereo tuner (no presets, no SW) Overall, I thought the system had good sound and features for the money. What other systems should I be comparing it to?

I don't know anything about the PC-8, but the only boom box I've every seen that sounded good is Bose's boom box. Unfortunately, it's not in the same price range. It costs about $700. But it is FANTASTIC sounding! As good as any stereo system I've ever heard. (No, I haven't heard any $10,000 CJ, Spectral, Electron Kinetics golden ear systems!) It sounds as least as good as my stereo (Onkyo A7070 integrated amp and Bose 901 speakers). Unfortunately, they are not sold in stores -- you have to get them directly from Bose, but if you live in certain areas, they will come and give you a demo in your own house.
