In my last article, a couple of weeks ago, I asked for advice on
japanes high-end equipment. I got few answers, and I now know
why.
I spent lots of time at stereo stores, asking the questions,
and I kept getting referred to American electronics, and European
turntables. the Japanese do however make wonderful tonearms and
cartridges.
At any rate, I have some tentative decisions, and I was wondering
if anyone had any comments.
I already have:
Speakers: Vandersteen 2C
Tapedeck: nakamichi BX-2
I am seriously considering
Power Amp: Denon POA-1500
CD: NAD
Denon
Nakamichi
Tonearm: Sumiko Premiere MMT
Cartridge: Shinon
Signet
I will probably buy a turntable and pre-amp upon receipt of
the japanese stuff. Leaders in this category are
Turntable: Harmon-Kardon
Thorens
Pre-Amp P-S Audio
Apt
If anyone has had experience with any of this stuff, or can suggest
anything Japanese that might be a better value, I would surely
apppreciate hearing for you.
As an aside, I would like to thank Gary at Stereo Unlimited in
San Diego, for being the only stereo retailer not to tell me where
to go, when I told him my story honestly. I recommend the
store immensely, and suggest that if you are looking for high-end
that you go to Stereo Unlimited.
