[net.audio] DNR Processors

rzdz@fluke.UUCP (Rick Chinn) (03/13/85)

Here are some more companies that make DNR type processors:

    Symmetrix
    109 Bell St.
    Seattle WA 98121
    206 682 5012

    MicMix Audio Products
    2995 Ladybird Lane
    Dallas TX 75220
    214 352 3811

Both companies make a DNR type processor, however neither uses the NSC DNR
chip. MicMix calls theirs Dynafex, Symmetrix calls theirs the 511 Noise
Reduction System. I've used both, and have a Symmmetrix unit. Both work, but
like everyone else has said, don't expect miracles on trashy sources... Both
units use the principle of a program controlled high-pass filter combined
with downard expansion.

You can get a Dynafex chip from Solid State music (chip vendor). I don't
know if they're interested in onesies/twosies, or if there are liscensing
problems (ala dolby). It may be possible to buy a DNR chip equivalent from
Sylvania (ECG general replacement line).

    GIGO....Garbage in, Garbage out
