I saw a demo of the Sony D-5 unit yesterday, and it is astounding. I have one question which the salesman couldn't answer. When I listen to classical pieces, I often stop in the middle, and finish at a later time. The D-5 has a pause, which keeps the CD spinning, and a stop which resets play to the beginning when restarted. Is there any easy way to stop in the middle and restart later? (I know that I can write down the current track number, and later manually search to the right track. -- I see this as too inconvenient). Is there something I missed, D-5 lovers?

[] I think the D-5 is not the only CD player unable to do what you ask. The D-5 is a no frills unit. If you want to pay several hundred dollars for the feature you are seeking, go right ahead - it's a free country. You have the track number and the elapsed time within the track. That can get you back to where you want to be when you need to return to the middle of a track. I'm not sure that any player will give you what you are asking: Guaranteed return to the point at which you turn off the system - at any arbitrary point within a track. Many of the fancy units will give you the ability to key-in the point within a track at which you want to start. That is perhaps less work than finding the spot with the "fast forward" capability. -- "It's the thought, if any, that counts!" Dick Grantges hound!rfg
