There was a small flurry of discussion a while back (months) about building your own speakers. What I was really hoping for was getting specific recommendations for drivers. Has anyone gone ahead and started their construction and have reports on drivers? It would be very nice to be able to pool observations instead of having all us builders fumble in the dark or buy drivers just to test. For this I am interested in big living room speakers. As a separate query, does anyone have recommendations for specific car speakers and amps? It's pretty easy to try out cassette decks in the stores, but harder to evaluate speakers, and essentially impossible to evaluate amps since most dealers don't believe they make a difference, saying it's the watts that counts. For an amp I think I'm looking for something around 30-50 watts per channel, clean sound, hopefully graceful clipping, no interference that the radio might pick up. For speakers I think a pair in front, a pair in back. What can be done under these restrictions? I'd like to keep it under $350 or so excluding the deck itself. -- -Mike Klein ...!ucbvax!ucbmerlin:klein (UUCP) klein%ucbmerlin@berkeley (ARPA)
