[net.chess] more errors and ambiguities in the posted descriptive scores

uncle@ihuxa.UUCP (hedrick) (02/11/85)

Readers of this newsgroup may wish to note more errors and ambiguities in
the posted descriptive scores of the games of the World Chess Championship.

In Game 36, White's 32nd move is given as `32. Q-Kv'. This is syntactically
incorrect; `32. Q-K2' is meant.  White's 41st move is given as `41. K-N3';
this is impossible, as White's KNP occupies that square. `41. K-N2' must be
meant. Black's 41st move (not given in the algebraic posting) is given as
`41.... Q-B2+'. Although the Black Queen can move to B2, such a move does
not check the White King. If the White King were on N3, which is not the
case, then `41.... Q-B2' would be check.

In Game 37, White's 8th move is given as `8. O-O'.  This is impossible;
`8. O-O-O' must be meant.

In Game 39, White's 21st move is given as `21. N-N5'. In the position before
White's 21st move, one Knight can go to QN5 while one Knight can move to KN5.
The description is therefore ambiguous; `21. N-QN5' is meant.

In Game 42, White's 17th move is given as `17. KR-1'. This is syntactically
incorrect; `17. KR-B1' must be meant.

I would like to add my voice to the general request for missing game scores.
I am missing scores of: the second half of Game 7, Game 25, Game 35, and Game 46.
Whoever has machine-readable versions of these games (in any notation): Please
post them to the net, so that the rest of us may benefit. Thank you in
advance of your efforts.
