O So why don't you buy the Sony 102 for $309
O mail order from Stereo Corp of America -
O as long as you can't afford $450?

SCA is very inconsistent. Sometimes you'll get what you ordered in a
week or so. However, if the item is popular, SCA will just take your
money and wait till it comes in. Of course, there maybe hundreds of
people ahead of you on this waiting list, and they may only be getting
20 or 30 players a month. If you do order from SCA, do two things:
    1. Find out where on the waiting list you are; and,
    2. Find out how many players they get a month.
This will give you some fuel if you order gets held up. Also, SCA's
customer service number is not toll-free and it's always busy and they
leave you on hold forever. It's better to pay $10-$20 more and find
some place that will ship it C.O.D.

I waited 3 months for a JVC RX500B receiver from SCA. Finally, after
a very helpful pointer from a kind netter, I called up Bryce Audio.
Their price was $28 more ($430 vs $402). I canceled my order with SCA
and placed it with Bryce. My receiver arrived within a week.

p.s. How's this for fickle: I've had my JVC RX500B
for 2 months and already I have my sights on
replacing it with the Carver Receiver.
