the above named cartridge has been available in Canada (only) for some time now and since no-one seems to want to say anything about it, i will. essentially, only the stylus is changed from the regular Type 4 with the HE stylus. reviewers have measured an significant increase in mid and high frequency trackability that places it almost halfway between the Type 4 HE and the Type 5 MR. more importantly, IM and TH distortion are well down from the HE version. improved trackability at light (1g/10mN) forces is extremely important in terms of reduced record wear. for those of you who own albums that are hard to track, this may be a reasonable cartridge to get. despite what many people say, the Type 4 is not a bad cartridge, just not as good as you can get. the Type 4 HE sells nowadays for $99 at discount, replacement stylus for $125, Type 4 MR for $199. the Type 5 MR is $435 at discount. for canadian audiophiles, it's the afforadable alternative to the Type 5 MR. of course, one can always pay $230 including shipping, duty, and exchange to get the Type 5 MR from J&R Music World. there is no target date for introduction to the rest of the world and whether it does or not depends upon the success in canada.
