[net.audio] High-end outfits failing & the TAS fire

Regarding the recent discussion of Acoustat's failure and buy-out by Hafler,
and speculations on JSE's future, take a look at the latest Absolute Sound
(just out -- my copy arrived last week) -- there is an article on four
high-end firms that have either failed and come back in modified form or
just failed. It's short -- about 4-6 pages or so -- and essentially
demonstrates that you have to be a businessperson and not just an audio
genius to make a go of such an enterprise.

Also, does anyone out there, especially the vast number of net people
in New Jersey, know any more details about the fire at Sea Cliff that
burnt up Harry Pearson's house? (HP is the top person at TAS.) The reports
(in Stereophile [I believe] and in this TAS [also maybe there was a mention
in one or more of the slicks?]) indicate that it was arson, but their
leadtime means that was as of some months back. Anybody out there familiar
with local newscasts or newspaper reports that have more info? I would
really be interested to find out if HP was firebombed by an enraged
audiophile or industry person, or if this all had nothing to do with the
audio aspects but was a personal attack, or if it was an accident after all.
