[net.audio] scientists?

It looks like what Hitachi has done is to lend samples of their cable
to a bunch of people for evaluation, and these people reported
back favorably.

Now, if I were manufacturing a product and I wanted to generate
a bunch of favorable reports, I too would lend samples to a bunch
of people, because there would be a strong psychological pressure
for these people to talk themselves into believing that the free
samples actually were better than what they were using.

But enough about marketing. Let's talk about science.

If I wanted to find out whether speaker cable X is actually
better (or worse) than speaker cable Y, I would set up
double-blind tests, in which the levels at the speaker terminals
were matched to within 0.1 dB. I might not even tell the subjects
that it was speaker wire they were evaluating: just give them
a little box with a switch in it and ask which position of the
switch they liked better.

If people clearly preferred cable X under those circumstances,
I would be more inclined to listen. Given only what you've said
so far, I'll suspend judgment.
