I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the
Magnavox 2040 CD player. Stereophile liked the sound of the
FD1000 but didn't like the features. The new 2040 has nicer
features but I'm not sure about the sound, I listened to it
at a local audio/video store where it was on sale for $249
and it sounded okay but I was forced to listen to it through
a fairly cheap JVC receiver. The salesmen was typical and
knew nothing about the electronics inside and claimed it
must be the same as the old Magnavox. What I was wondering
was if anyone knows if it uses the same D/A conversion
techniques and if so what are they? Also if anyone has had
any experience with this model? I need this information as
soon as possible since I told the manager that I would be
back for it on Thursday ( 5-16-85 ), it really went off sale
last saturday.
