[net.audio] Can I have one, too?

I do not own a CD player, but I may soon, after listening to my friend's
Sony (model unknown) yesterday (I am listening to his Sony Portable version
right now, and am pretty impressed).

Can anyone advise on brands and models to go for and/or stay away from?
I haven't looked at the market at all yet, but will probably make a trip
to "the city" this weekend.

Thanks in advance...

p.s. I realize that this topic is probably old hat, but I just started
reading this newsgroup today and there aren't many past articles
to read. If this is repetitious, please mail or call.

Look into Magnavox players.

They do not offer the glitz and marketing hype of the more expensive players,
but sound at least as good.

Re: Magnavox players.
The top loading ones also collect dirt and junk, requiring
cleaning from time to time. This is a style that has been abandoned
by the industry as a whole although some hang on to it, probably for
product differentiation reasons.
