I just KNEW all you net.audioans would be simply peachy-keen THRILLED to hear about this... Sony is coming out with a boom box/ghetto blaster incorporating the CD-5 CD player -- the picture (in the latest Audio Times trade paper) shows the usual chunk of electronics with a handle, flanked by a pair of (probably detachable) mini-speakers. The CD-5 is built into the top of the unit, and it has cassette and radio, as usual. $550 list. (They ought to get together with Bose and make a CD boom box with Bose's fancy acoustic labyrinth enclosure...) The latest issue of AUDIO (or was it Digital Audio?) has an article on the Sony CDF-5 boom box. I didn't read the article but it is not a small unit. The speakers are called attachable speakers. I suppose this means that Sony thinks people will have the speakers detached most of the time and will attach them only to move the unit. In regards to BOSE incorporating the D-5 into their Acoustical Wave system, someone on the net reported some time ago that they plan to have such a unit by this Christmas. If so, they will be showing it at the Summer CES here in Chicago in a week and a half. I already have it on my list of things to check out. I'll let you know if they show it or plan to release it soon. Kit Kimes AT&T Consumer Products Montgomery Works Montgomery, Il. 60538-0305 ..!ihnp4!mgweed!kek
