Catching up on net.audio, I saw a number of messages relating to grungy contacts and connectors. I've had excellent results with a two-part cleaner called Cramolin. So far, I have used it only on connectors (i.e., gizmos used to make an electrical connection and leave it that way, as opposed to contacts which see frequent make/break or wiping action). The most convincing example was with my terminal--a Visual 100 which has very poor-quality connectors in a couple of places. The terminal used to go weird periodically--scrambling the display, going into setup or diag mode, blanking the display, etc. Disassembling the terminal and cleaning up the connectors would solve the problem for two or three months at most. [You can't believe how embarrassing/infuriating it is to get halfway thru composing a royal flame and have the terminal go berserk, sending a half- baked flame ending in garbage characters.] But I digress...I used Cramolin to clean and protect the contacts about a year ago. There hasn't been a hint of a problem since. The stuff is fairly easy to use and it takes so little that the smallest bottles will last forever unless you're related to Lazarus Long or trying to refurbish an entire television station. -- Dick Dunn {hao, ucbvax, allegra}!nbires!rcd (303)444-5710 x3086 ...Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.
