Well, I have finished shopping for components and I wish to thank everyone who was able to send opinions and thoughts on various pieces of equipment. Now it is my turn to report what I have done. I got a wide variety of responses and it helped when I went shopping. The new equipment was purchased through a good friend at an audio store with a good reputation. I purchased the following: Yamaha A-700 integrated amp. Kenwood Basic T-1 tuner. A pair of Bang & Olufsen Red line 60 speakers. The amplifier is 100w/ch and produces very clean sound. It has a lot of dynamic head room and doesn't come with too many bells and whistles. It has Bass/treble and step loudness controls. It also has a direct switch which allows you to by-pass the control settings. It has a record-from switch so you can listen to a different unit then you arr recording from. It has a muting button and selection for moving magnet or magnetic coil for tunrtable hookup. I like the amplifier. It has more than enough power than what I really need but it produces good sound. The main reason for choosing 100w/ch was to have the ability to crank it up when I felt like it but also to be able to produce "a good crank up". The tuner is fabulous, especially for the $150 I paid for it. It is a basic no fills tuner. Has 6 memory stations, auto/manual tuning, FM mono/stereo and is very small. I listen to the radio quite a bit but I am not really an FM person. This unit does the trick. Enough said. The speakers are very good. The only major gripe is that they don't produce enough bass response. Not a problem! The main reason for their purchase was because they sounded great TO MY EAR at low volumes. I enjoy falling asleep each night to my favorite tunes set at a good volume. The bass response I can fix at low volumes using the amp's loudness control. It is step like the bass/treble. However, when I turn it up to normal listening volume, I just switch in the "B" speakers and enjoy. They are Technics SLB-51's and they aren't the greatest but they sure sound good when driven by the amp and together with the B & O speakers. I am very satisfied. To through a little bit in about digital audio, I have a Sony CDP-102. I have no qualms about it. It is a good unit and I especially like the remote control unit. Again, I thank everyone who took some time to write a report about certain stereo units and to help me in shopping. To help generalize what people on the net had to say: A lot of people think Carver equipment is top notch. Most people liked NAD equipment. And I got a few who liked the Technics, Yamaha and NAK equipment.
