I just read an article in a CD magazine that claimed one could improve "presence and ambience" by "hot wiring" speakers. I tried it and the improvement seemed definite. The article claimed that CD recordings (because of digital software deficiencies) lack a sufficient amount of L-R signal, which is supposed to contain much of the ambience info. Instead of buying an expensive CARVER amp system (holography?), the article claims we can utilize the existing L-R signal contained on the hot leads of the L and R amplifier jacks. One simple method is to use an inexpensive 3rd, spare speaker you may have lying around, hooking it to the jacks for a second speaker system. The method is to hook the speaker's + lead to the + side of one channel, and the speaker's - lead to the + side of the other channel (of the 2nd speaker system). Then play with both systems activated. The 3rd speaker (the L-R) should be pointing off to one side, not directly at the listener. If this has already been discussed on the net and I've missed it, I'd appreciate someone mailing me copies of some of the discussion. --Henry Friedman {ihnp4 or etc.}hlexa!hsf
