[net.audio] CD Clubs question

jona@clyde.UUCP (Jon Allingham) (06/10/85)

I recently saw an add for the Sony Digital Audio Club and am curious
to know if anyone has had any sort of experience with them, ie do
they offer any good prices on CDs, are they reliable, do they have
a good selection ( I'm mostly interested in classical music, but I
listen to all sorts of other things also ) ??

Mail responses unless you think it's worth posting to the net. I don't
know if this club has already been discussed and I just missed it.

There is a club specifically for Classical Music. You can join either
as a member for records and tapes or for compact disks. They had an
ad in last months DIAL magazine (PBS subscribers get this one).

Beware, they work like any other record club. They will send you a
disk every month if you don't return the card. I don't know what
their prices are like but you get the first disk for $1 and there is
no obligation to take any other disks. I don't know anything else
about them but from the list in their ad, they carry a variety of
labels. Their address is:

	The International Preview Society
	P.O. Box 91406
	Indianapolis, IN 46291

If anyone has had any experiences with this outfit, I would appreciate
your comments.

I've been a member of the International Preview Society for about seven
years and I have been very pleased with their service. They have a good
selection in their catalog and are very responsive to their customers'
complaints. Once they were experimenting with sending records via UPS
instead of parcel post. Needless to say, a few of my records got left
with someone, as I was not at home, and disappeared forever. When I got the
overdue notice on my account I sent the Society a letter explaining that I
never got the recordings. They credited my account and sent a replacement
(parcel post) immediately with no questions asked. They no longer use UPS.

If you like classical music, I would highly recommend the International
Preview Society.

I, too, would be interested in information on CD clubs. I *think*
I remember reading about an RCA CD division, but this was some time ago.

I got some information from RCA about their CD club several months
ago, but it didn't seem all that hot at the time. Their offer was
one free disk when you join (although the selection was a little
lame), and no obligation to buy any more. Unfortunately, I threw the
stuff away, but I got it by applying on Compuserve (GO RCA?).
