Since several people have complained about mail order service and others have asked about good experiences, I thought I would share my latest good experience with the net. On Friday, I ordered an Onkyo TX-37B receiver from Illinois Audio. I got a confirming letter on Monday and the package arrived UPS on Tuesday. It was carefully packed in a double carton. As a bonus, they had the best price by far of any place I called for a quote. I paid $210 plus shipping and tax (I live in Illinois). The second best quote was $251 from Hi-Fi International. I got a little upset at Hi-fi though, because, after giving me a quote, he said "Of course, our quote means nothing unless you are ready to buy because we are willing to match any competitors price." Needless to say, I didn't call back to test him out. As for the receiver, I liked the TX-36 (last years model) a lot but decided to hold off a month after seeing the TX-37 at this years Consumers Electronic Show. It has a couple of additional features and has 5 more watts per channel. I'm glad I waited, because the 'stereo image expander' really sounds nice when you are sitting in or near the 'sweet spot'. Anyone interested in buying from or getting quotes from Illinois Audio, their toll free number is (800)-621-8042, their normal phone number is (312)-664-0020. I don't know if the toll free number is for orders only or if you can use it for quotes too. I used the local phone number since I am in the 312 area code. I don't know why their price on the Onkyo was so low, since their quote on the Sony D-5 was $229, pretty much on a par with most other quotes I got. Here's another vote for Illinois Audio. I bought a turntable and
cartridge from them and they arrived very quickly and in perfect
condition. I've never had any problems with IA, whatsoever. This
kind of operation ought to be encouraged.
