From: sutter (Bob Sutterfield) We just bought a new car (Subaru GL 4wd wagon) with the base-line 4-speaker AM/FM stereo radio, with the specific intent of massively upgrading the sound system sometime during the next few months. The system in our old car had a 25-watt amp driving Jensen 6903 6x9 triaxials in the rear deck. It sounded great, but we left it in that car. It looks like the door panels where the current speakers in the new car are installed will give room for similar flush-mount units. The power and speaker cable are already in place in the dash and doors and etc. So, what opinions are out there regarding current reasonably-nice car audio systems? I can see investing around $300 in the system now. Are there such things as component car audio systems, like there are component home audio systems? Are they as much better than the standard all-in-one (tape, tuner, preamp, equalizer, power amp) as the home versions? If so, what sorts of peripherals are available? Would these allow later addition of a CD player? (finally, a reference to the Subject: line :-) How much dash space should I allow? Will the standard 12V supply lines manage all this? And should I immediately rip out and replace the speaker cable with solid-gold braided Monsters? -- ----------- Human: Bob Sutterfield Facilities Management Division The Ohio State University Instruction & Research Computer Center Workplace: Ohio Cooperative Extension Service, Computer Management Group OCES VAX System Manager/Programmer (VMS) Mail: ...cbosgd!osu-eddie!sutter.UUCP or: sutter@ohio-state.CSNET MaBell: (614) 422 - 9034
