I'm posting the following article for a friend. Send any responses to me, and I will forward them. I'm getting ready to buy a stereo receiver and I was hoping to tap the net for some advice. My price range is ~$300-$400 and I'm interested in power in the 60-80 watt range. As far as specs are concerned, I'm located 45 miles from a big city (Washington, DC), so FM sensitivity may be important while multi-path problems may not. I seem to recall Consumer Reports saying a while back that everybody has such good specs these days that you can buy for the features that appeal to you. Does the net agree with this? If so, what features are the most useful? Most in that price range seem capable of taking CDs and VCRs. Some even take cable and a few include graphic equalizers. I guess I'm looking for someone (or a concensus) to say something like "JVC is the brand to buy in your price range" or "Stay away from Sansui, used to be good but.." or "Forget the gadgets like graphic equalizers, put the money in better specs" or ... you know what I mean. As usual, mail to me and I will summarize. Thanks. -- Rick Zaccone Pennsylvania State University CSNET: zaccone@penn-state BITNET: zaccone@psuvax1 UUCP: {akgua,allegra,burdvax,ihnp4}!psuvax1!zaccone
