I've thought about setting up a Bi-amped stystem for a while now. I got the idea from an article in Audio magazine a few years ago (early 1984). Right now my system has cost me about $1500 (that my not sound like a lot to some of you, but then i'm not a total phanatic), and I just cannot find another amplifier that could do the job that i explian below. Basically the article in Audio explians how to construct three slightly differant ported subwoofers using JBL drivers, and in the next article plans for an active crossover network are given. Using the crossover, one can drive the mid and high ranges with their current amplifier, and then using another amp drive the subwoofer. I got so far as to build the crossover unit and one of the subwoofers that the article covers. I then set out to find another amp that would finish up my system. I was looking for an amp that could deliver about 100 watts RMS with lots of headroom (since woofers eat power). Another thing that I looked for was that the amp be in kit form (since I enjoy building things as you may have guessed by now). After a rather extensive search of audio magazines I still am unable to find a good amp in kit form that will satisfy my requirments. Of course I found the Hafler kits, and the Heath kits but they are just a little more than what i need or can afford at the moment. Does anyone know of any manufacturers that make good quality amps at a reasonable price in kit form? Send E-mail to: GOT@PSUVM or S2G@PSUECL Sunil Gupta
