[net.audio] CD player prices - a new low?

For those who are waiting for the price of CD players to drop to the price
of calculator watches:
An audio chain in the LA area is selling a "2nd generation" player for $149.
It's a (yuk!) Emerson which is manufactured by (yum!) Yamaha.
(At least that's what the salesman was saying).

Well, I bought a Magnavox 2040 for $179.95 here in Jersey, also
looked at the Emerson (yuk) for about $149.

CD players with reduced specs (probably still better than what most
could hear and better than what you expect) are indeed starting to
show up. I'm not sure I'd consider Emerson, even if it was made by
Yamaha, but it would still probably show up most of the rest of my
system, except possibly my Beta Hi-Fi.

Personally, I want the portable Sony (D5???) that I can use in the
car, portable, or at home. Maybe this Christmas.....
