Ok. I keep hearing contractions regarding which CD players follow the Phillips "quad-sampling, 2 D/As, etc" idea. I know Nakamichi does. I hear Mission and Meridian do, and I hear they don't. Who out there knows the real story? What I'd really like to do is compile a list of manufacturers AND MODEL NUMBERS for all CD players that do their thing this way. So...if you know about a CD player that does this, would you please let me know? Don't bother telling me both Naks do (I already know that), but anything else is fair game. I'll happily post my results in a few days. (If someone has already done this, would you mind reposting your results?) Thanks! The October 1985 issue of Audio has their annual equipment directory. Among other things, this directory tells what kind of decoding circuitry is used by most of the CD players on the market.

Although Digital Audio hasn't panned out to have the technical savvy of Audio or High Fidelty, this month's issue has a fairly comprehensive survey of the available CD players. The players are grouped by price, and details such as which players have digital and which have analog filters as well as the number of DACs are given for every player. The list is long, so I suggest investing $2.95 for a copy.
