[net.audio] tape head cleaners.

Does anyone have any thoughts about what the best cassette head cleaner is?
Up until now, I have been using Q-tips and 91% alcohol, but now that
I have a car tape deck, I want to get the type of cleaner that you insert
in your tape machine like a cassette.  There are several on the market,
and I was considering either the Alsop, which has replaceable pads on
some sort of mechanism, or Discwasher's system, which is 2 cassettes:
one for the heads and one for the pinch rollers etc.  I have been told to
stay away from most of the other makes, which are abrasive.

I would appreciate hearing what anyone has to do say about these or other
brands. And while we're at it, does anyone have an opinion about the
TDK demagnetizer in cassette housing?

I was thinking about buying a plug in type cassette head cleaner.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with these things.

I have been cleaning my heads with trichlorotrifluoro ethane.
Yes, that is the stuff taht costs an arm and a leg in a stereo
store.  It is relatively cheap from Aldrich or other
chemical suppliers.

Anyway, I am tired of pulling the decks out of my cars, and
wanted the lazy way out.  Do any of those things work?

Which ones?

Discwasher makes three cassettes for maintaining the entire tape path of
your cassette deck:
		   a demagnetiser
		   a pinch-roller cleaner
		   a head cleaner

I use them regularly on my decks and they seem to work fine.  I don't
remember just what they cost, but I ordered them from Illinois Audio
for some reasonable figure.
