A friend of mine has a Hafler 110 preamp which he bought used (and therefore already assembled). It has a noticeable amount of noise (in both channels) with the volume all the way down. Is this a known problem with this preamp? Does anybody know of a fix? Inasmuch as the noise level seems independant of the volume setting, would it be appropriate to attenuate the output of the preamp? (He has such an excessive power amp that he never has the volume control all that far up anyway). It doesn't seem to me that a resistive attenuator would muck up the music, but then I am not an audiophile, and wouldn't have thought that tube amps would be better either:-). I don't normally use this machine, and the one I normally use doesn't receive net.audio, so I'd appreciate it if you could mail any replies to me at my regular mailing address: -- Bennett Todd - Duke Computation Center, Durham, NC 27706-7756; +1 919 684-3695 UUCP: ...{decvax,seismo,philabs,ihnp4,akgua}!mcnc!ecsvax!duccpc!bet
