[net.audio] Live music better than recorded

Hasn't someone on the net reported the Frank Zappa incident?

I don't remember it precisely, but as best as I can recall,
FZ was putting on a concert of some modern electronic music
he had composed. Unfortunately, there wasn't much practice
time before the concert, and the musicians could not learn
the piece. No problem, Zappa merely had the musicians play
with their microphones turned off, and played a recording
(a casette, as I recall). Several critics wrote embarassing
(to themselves) reviews, praising the sound quality.

This was reported in several national magazines at the time.
Does anyone still have a copy of one of the articles?

Nevertheless, I always prefer live music to recorded, but
I would never claim it is because recorded music is inferior
musically. And with the cost of CD's being what it is, live
music is cheaper!
