Gee, thanks for dragging me into this Mr. Pierce. Now your readers will get to hear a small part of the other side. N.B. Ad hominem remarks remove here when good sense sets in. I don't own Bose 901's. And I don't recall where I heard them. When I did I was not overly enthusiastic about the distributed source effect re from the back wall, but it did have its moments on some music. I have worked semi-professionally where Bose PA speakers have been used and, as I have said before, with the exception of my beloved Altec A7's, I haven't heard better than the Bose. (above ,say,100 hertz) The PA speaker may not use the same driver as the 901, but it certainly is similar and both differ from the early units as Mr. Pierce noted. Coming from the Boston area as you say, and with as much background as you are constantly explaining to us, and being as vehement about everything Bose as you are, you <must> have some other good stories to tell about Bose. (More ad hominem rot removed here, too) The good Doctor has a pretty fair reputation - he has at least managed to hang on to both his job at MIT and his company. Hard to see how that could be with the worst loudspeaker system in the (presumably free) world. I doubt that smiley faces :-) will help the tone of this much. Speaker buyers <would> be well advised to <try> to compare the 901 with something else. However, probably many stores will make that difficult to do. I suspect that for many people the sound of Bose will be just what they have been looking (listening?) for. Bose spkrs are not cheap. THerefore, listen before you leap, but if you like Bose don't get an inferiority complex about it. Lots of people like speakers that are far worse sounding. I will not suggest some as I chickened out. Well, they sound better than my minimus 0.7's.;-) -- "It's the thought, if any, that counts!" Dick Grantges hound!rfg
