Does anyone know whatever happened to Bobby Fischer
(the John Mc-Enroe of chess) after he lost the title by default?
Is he a writer for a respected chess periodical?
Is he loading docks somewhere?

Just nosy

Last I heard he had gotten mixed up with a fundamentalist Christian commune
and was doing farm work, poor guy. Seems like as good a way to recover from
burnout as any... Anybody else heard anything?

By the way, the regulars in all those newsgroups mentioned above will probably
not like this. Is there any easy way to restrict the discussion to net.chess
only? Would it have worked if I had edited the header while building this
followup?

The rumours doing the rounds among the 2300+ players i know
are that he is now living from hand to mouth with no fixed place
of address. There exists a woman who gets all his mail but i've
forgotten all the details. He is said to be afraid of Russian
assassins and is essentially vagrant. He is possibly (mildly?)
psychotic. the stuff about the fundamentalist christian sect is
true. Please remember this is all PURE RUMOUR.

Yes, if you edit the Newsgroups: line in the header, you can delete (or add)
groups which will receive your message. For example, this should only be seen
in net.chess.
