Sorry to complain, but the act of replacing a lot of the older TV antennas that were around in 1960 with "color ready" TV antennas wasn't just snake oil. A lot of the older antennas had an element (or set thereof, for some) that resonated at each of the VHF channels, with a fairly high Q, resulting in considerable distortion of the signal above 2.5mHz (relative to carrier), which doesn't do much, if anything to B&W, but causes some drastic behaviors in color sets. Of course, there were "color ready" antennae that weren't any good, and older antennae that were just fine, so I'm sure that a lot of the public did wind up with "snake oil".
