[net.audio] Color TV antennae and NO snake oil

jj@alice.UUCP (10/15/85)

Sorry to complain, but the act of replacing a lot of the older TV
antennas that were around in 1960 with "color ready" TV antennas
wasn't just snake oil. A lot of the older antennas had an element
(or set thereof, for some) that resonated at each of the VHF channels,
with a fairly high Q, resulting in considerable distortion of the
signal above 2.5mHz (relative to carrier), which doesn't do much, if
anything to B&W, but causes some drastic behaviors in color sets.

Of course, there were "color ready" antennae that weren't any
good, and older antennae that were just fine, so I'm sure that
a lot of the public did wind up with "snake oil". I only want
to point out that there were a LOT of the older antennae that did
need to be replaced.
