[net.audio] crossover design

Someone asked about crossover information.

I made my own for a 3-way system that I use. The design information was
obtained from a book called "The Recording and Reproduction of Sound"
which was published by Howard Sams in 1952. The information is basic
high and low pass filter design. The type of network I use basically has
two components for each speaker: series L and shunt C for the woofer and
series C and shunt L for the tweeter. For the mid range speaker I used
a combination hi/lo pass. The crossover frequencies I used were 500 Hz
and 3 kHz. The big problem was finding the large capacitors necessary
for the low frequency. In my case, two 23 uf caps were needed. I
finally lucked out and found some fairly large mylar caps I could
parallel to get the 23 uf. I do not like using back-to-back
electrolytics!
