[net.audio] The LINN/NAIM RELIGION

mohler@drune.UUCP (MohlerDS) (11/07/85)

You have been subjected to a LINN/NAIM RELIGION session where
non-believers are flagged heretics and science doesn't exist.
Regardless of your position on the relative merits of various
program sources a better phono system will extract more "groove
information" and wear your records less. Linn happens to make
a very good quality phono system (that is over priced), but
not because it is covered with snake oil during production --;).

Some of what Linn recommends is due to the fact that their phono
equipment esp. their ITTOK LV-II arm, and Karma cartridge are
Linn's most excellent products! Their small KAN speakers are
not bad either. The turntable itself is quite good albeit a finicky
pain in the --;) to keep the suspension set up correctly. Their
other products sre not exceptional, however they are priced as if
they were!! Keep in mind that these are the same people that actually
believe that a digital watch with an alarm will degrade the sound of
their phono system if it is in the same room!! Talk about snake
oil, these folks drink the stuff. All of this said, if you can't
hear the difference any component makes don't pay a premium price
for it unless money isn't an issue. One last item, even though the
LINN/NAIM people ask you to believe in their religion and are sometimes
out in left-field, don't make the mistake of thinking that all of
their equipment is as weird as their opinions.

This is my opinion and for those who argue about such things I don't
care to substantiate it.
