I have the task of modifying the PA system at my church. As constructed, there is a second amplifier (100 watts) attached to the system which drives a number of remote speakers that are ceiling-mounted in rooms elsewhere in the facilities through a 70 volt transformer. There are (7) 5-8" speakers mounted in smaller rooms, each having a step-down transformer (5-watt tap used) in the cabinet and an L-pad mounted after the transformer to provide local volume control. There is one larger room as well, having (6) 10" speakers ceiling- mounted, each with a transformer (10-watt tap used) located in the cabinet with the driver. The problem is that the larger room described above now needs to be controlled independantly, so that the room can be used (without the speakers on) while the remainder of the remote speakers are still operating. I would like to find a solution that would provide either a way of controlling the volume in the large room independantly of the others, or a means of at least switching it off when desired without affecting the rest of the rooms *without* resorting to using a separate amp to drive each group. (For various reasons, the volume control solution would be preferable, but either would help - there's not much money available for new equipment.) Does anyone know of such a method? Feel free to E-mail replies, or reply to the net, and thanks in advace for the help!
