A local stereo warehouse that deals in discontinued & floor sample merchandise has a Hitachi DA-1000 CD player for $200. They CLAIM it originally sold for $1000. It looks nice. It sounds nice (on the only CD I own). Is this a good buy. It comes "with a full manufacturer's warranty" but is unboxed and undocumented. Just an odd "feature"... it holds the disc vertically!. Does anyone in netland own one? Any known problems with them? Thanks, kpk@gatech.GTNET Disclaimer of responsibility: I am not responsible

[] You might try looking it up in Audio magazine. Len Feldman reviewed it a couple of years ago. A year later he put in a short note commending himself for exposing this player as a real dog - which he did <not> do in the original article. However, this is the <only> reference I have ever seen in a public magazine to <anything> being a really bad design. THerefore, one might expect it really was awful. I'd buy something else myself - even at $50. -- "It's the thought, if any, that counts!" Dick Grantges hound!rfg
