[net.audio] YAMAHA Tuners

randy@utcsri.UUCP (Randall S. Becker) (02/19/86)

The following represents my opinions only (but you can check the specs
yourself).

I just purchased a few YAMAHA components for my stereo (specifically the
A-1020 integrated amp and the T-1020 tuner). The amp comes with full
recommendations. The sound is, well, nice. The tuner represents an insult to
the audio industry. What ever happened to the days of the T-2 or T-7 when
YAMAHA made the best tuner in the world (one of the T-2 or T-7, I can't
remember)? Although the T-1020 is one of the most sensitive that I've touched,
the sound that it puts out is so bad that my mono clock radio does better.
I think that it takes a lot of gall to sell what is claimed to be a good tuner
(next to the top of the YAMAHA line) which puts out signals bettered by that
of the bottom of the line receiver. What gives?

I have returned my tuner to YAMAHA and recommend that no one even think of
considering to by that (or any derivation) tuner. Maybe I should consider
picking up the STG7 tuner by Technics?

At your service,

Randy
