[net.audio] Where can you get cheap CD's?

naivar@dspo.UUCP (Mark A. Naivar) (07/08/86)

A friend of mine just bought a CD player and is now
wondering where he can get CD's cheaply. (as in around $12)
If anyone out there knows of a mail-order outfit or similar
place that sells CD's for a pretty good price, I would really
appreciate hearing about it. If there has just recently been
a posting of this, sorry. I unsubscribed when there was too
much flaming going on about LP's vs. CD's. Thanx in advance!

The cheapest classical CDs that I know of are had thru Andre Perrault Inc.
Virginia Beach VA. Their prices range from about 12 to 14 dollars
(including shipping). The only draw back is that they are slow to
deliver. They are very up front about this and state explicitly
the expected delivery time in each catalog (8 weeks).
Unfortunatly, they only deal in classical imports.

Unless you buy in bulk, you're still gonna get reamed. Don't pay over
$12 for domestic CDs and $14 for imports. Wait--you've got to be patient.
Hit the $10.99 sales at local record shops, especially the chain ones
who don't know much about CDs, except that they sell them. I've gotten
lots of ridiculous $18.99 imports at the sale price. For instance the
Odyssey (mostly video and cheap plastic dayglo trash) in Los Angeles
indescriminatly marked a bunch of their CD's down to $8.99. I guess
they needed more room for cheap dayglo trash or something.

I have called several CD warehouses that claim to have "low low low"
prices. Some findings:

OZ Warehouse Outlet	404-292-5450 (Georgia)
discs range from $13.99 to $15.99 (imports)
	reasonable selection

The Essentials Marketing	206-771-4820 (Washington)
discs range from $12.99 to $14.99
fabulous selection -- 62 page catalog

Most other places either took more than 8 weeks to send a catalog
(how long will the discs take to get here?) or have prices worse
than your local McRecord Store.

Try the CD DELI, which I am using (and couple of my friends) for more
than a year without any problems. They specialize in TELARC label and
used to keep all of them in stock (no backorders). They carry also other labels
but sometimes you will have to wait. We like their prices - the lowest we
found in N.Y. : TELARC sells for $12.99, other labels (PHILIPS, LONDON
L'OISEAU LYRE, ARGO, etc.) for $12.00. Some "imports" may be more expensive,
eg. $14.99 for Michell Jarre. You can buy any quantity you want. The shipment
charge is always $2. No tax outside N.Y. state.

The address: CD DELI

The best prices I've seen for CD's was at a place called the Great
House of Guitars in Rochester, NY. The place is amazing! Not only
do they have most CD's at $11.98, but they have current record releases
at only $5.98! They also have a huge selection of oldies at anywhere from
2.99 to 3.99. I'm not sure if they do mail order or not but its worth a try.
They also carry many musical instuments in wide array of price ranges. As
a matter of fact they're one of the only places that has several Steinburger
bass guitars in stock at all times.

I have received a whole bunch of mail on CD DELI mail order house.
This is some additional information about them. I have been using this
outlet without any problems more than a year now.

CD DELI sells compact disks (TELARC but also other labels) and various
DENON products (eg. my friend bought there CD player model 1500 for a decent
price).

The price for TELARC disks is $12.99, all POLYGRAM (London, Argo, L'Oiseau
Lyre, etc.) $12.00.

The address: CD DELI
		      5706 7th Ave
		      Brooklyn, NY 11220
		      tel. (718) 439-3324

1. CD DELI accepts orders by phone

2. They accept American Express, COD, personal checks

3. No minimum or maximum order, shipment is always $2.

4. They do not have a catalog yet.

5. They HAVE in stock all TELARC disks (!), so you wait only on UPS
   shipment to arrive to you.

6. Disks arrive in original manufacturer's sealed packing.
