[net.audio] Best moderate CD player

freed@aum.UUCP (Erik Freed) (07/21/86)

Can anyone give me the definitive details on what the best CD player is for
the following needs.

1) It would be nice if it was portable. Especially if it had a built in
rechargeable battery. But I do not want a trashy piece of equipment.
2) I am buying my own headphones separately.
3) I need it convenient to use at work (on a desk)
4) I realize that there are a number of differences between the low cost
portables and the component variety. I would like the digital filter,
non-multiplexed D to A, etc... but I do not know how much these impact
   the *moderately* serious listener.
5) I would like to spend between $150 and $275.

I would appreciate any advice that people can give me.
		    Thanks

I have the Technics portable (with battery pack) for the last year,
and it's been great. It cost $209, and the battery pack was an extra
$50 (good for about 8 hours on a charge). Although I don't know about
the specs, I can vouch for it's reliability (even when toting it
around), and - to my ears - it's fine sound.

BTW, it's programmable (something I found to be a MUST).
