Based on the advice and experiences shared by others in the net, I
have come to the conclusion that there is either a bad batch or else
a very inferior grade duping process in connection with the Sleeping
Beauty video - in HIFI mode that is. Some responses suggested that I
try fooling with the tracking, which was actually the first step I
took - it just made the sound go from bad to worse. Usually, if you
have to fool with the tracking when playing a pre-recorded - especially
a new one - video, chances are that it is a poor recording. I went through
a total of 4 tapes in this case and found that 3 had the garble and
1 had no audio on channel A and nothing but garble on channel B. So
I gave up on playing it in HIFI mode and found that it sounds fine.
I did have to adjust my EQ to eliminate the higher band noise, but that
I can live with. Sure, I can watch and enjoy the video this way, but
if it is supposed to be stereo HIFI, it should meet up to the consumer's
expectations. That should not be too much to ask.
Walt would have been pissed!!
