People with CDC disk drives might be interested to know about a new source of maintenance for them: a firm called Terabit Computer Systems. Terabit is basically the folks who used to run Ampex Canada's maintenance operation, now in business for themselves since Ampex has pretty much phased out dealings with end users. They handle other makes of equipment as well, and I just found out that they now handle CDC disk drives. These people are *VERY* good. They have maintained our Ampex drive ever since we got it. We have occasionally been unhappy with the drive, but not with the maintenance. How many times have you seen three maintenance men still working on a disk problem at 1900 on a Friday evening? (When the maintenance contract says 9-to-5 only!!) When they were with Ampex they persisted in giving us good service despite their management occasionally dragging its heels on the grounds that we were too small a customer to merit all that attention.
