[ont.general] TD Green machines

I was waiting for a friend to make a phone call last night
(a cold and wintry one!) and I needed a place to keep warm
while he made his long call. Soooo I noticed that a Green Machine
(Toronto Dominion Bank) was kept in the front hall of the TD bank.
The door had the usual little slot in it so that the Green Card
could be placed in it to open the door to get to the Green Machine.

I did not have a Green Card but I did have a Commerce Convenience Card
which I plugged intothe slot.
Sure enough, the buzzer rang and the lock opened.

I guess those little boxes on the doors just looks for the dark
strip on the back of the card. I've tried American Express and
I've tried Mastercard and they work too. I would guess
that American Express and Visa would work.
(The CIBC bank machine room doors respond to all of the above too)

The devices I have seen where you are supposed to insert your Green Card to
open a locked door don't read the strip at all. Any card which fits will work.

Some Green Machines now READ your card. Try the one on Yonge St. just
south of Bloor. You have to put the card in and then take it out at a fixed
rate in order that the machine may read it...
