An international fireworks competition is being held this year at Ontario
Place. There are 4 countries involved. The presentations are choreographed
to music and start at 10:00 (aprox 45 minutes). It is advisable to arrive
early.

Dates and country:
-----------------
June 25th - Italy
June 28th - Great Britain
July 1st - Canada (naturally)
July 7th - France
July 10th - Finale - all 4 countries put on about 12 minutes each.

Make that STRONGLY URGED TO ARRIVE VERY EARLY AND BY PUBLIC TRANSIT IF
POSSIBLE!

We went to one of them last year - co-incidentally with:
	- A very large and popular rock concert
	- Record breaking attendance for the CHIN picnic (120K+)
	- Record breaking attendance at a Jays game (45K+).

Amongst oter things, the Lakeshore was totally blocked for something
like 6 hours with abandoned cars etc. The police towed over 400 cars
before they abandoned any attempts to keep it clear.

What a zoo!

The fireworks were worth it.

Best vantage point: extreme south-west shore of Ontario Place around
the beach (facing south). The fireworks are fired from a barge about
1/4 mile offshore - directly south of the beach.

The right way to see things like fireworks, in fact, is to go there in
late afternoon by public transit, and then have a picnic supper and
generally laze around until fireworks time comes. Afterwards, hike
north a substantial distance to get away from the crush, and take
public transit home. (Public transit in the immediate vicinity of the
lakeshore will be utterly jammed; unless you are handicapped or very
seriously tired, hiking north until you hit an uncrowded east-west
streetcar or bus route is better.)

Or, of course, s/hike/bike/.
You can take bicycles on the TTC, except at rush hours or other busy times.
