[ont.general] CUT TO THE BONE

rhubbs@watdcsu.waterloo.edu (Robert (NetJunkie) Hubbs) (10/16/88)

I would just like to let anyone who does not know, that a march is being
held Oct. 31 on Queens's Park to protest the current state of education
in this province.

Everyone at this university has a voice to the government on the
topic of post-secondary education and I urge you to join with me in
exercising that voice. Many local student bodies will be running buses
to and from the march and the events to be held after (including a
"warm down" session to be held at either the Brunswick House or the Ryerson pub.

The issues are serious and here is a partial list.

- In the last 10 years tuition has more then doubled
- A recent report recomends tuition deregulation upto $2500
- In 10 years the operating grants give to Ontario universities has
	fallen 15%
- Enrollment is up 12% this year alone
- Ontario student's tuition pays 16.7% of the operating costs of the Univ.s
compaired to the national average of 11%
- The provinces looses millions in federal transfer payment that never get
	spent on provinicial education

The list goes on for more information contact

	Ontario Federation of Students
I cant remember the number but it is in Toronto
	try Bell info.

I will save the housing and OSAP issues for later :-)

It is time we did something about the mess education is in.
