[ont.general] Trouble at Ontario Environment Network

root@becker.UUCP (Root Boy) (01/20/89)

I just read this article in the paper -

		COMPUTER LINK STOLEN

Thieves who broke into the Toronto
		offices of the Ontario Environment
Network on the weekend and stole
		$35,000 worth of computer equip-
ment took away a key component
used to link hundreds of groups and
		organizations across North Ameri-
ca. A spokesman said the loss of
the data base called "the Web" is
		"a devastating blow." The net-
		work, a non-profit educational and
		service organization that provides
resources to more than 300 envi-
		ronmental groups in Ontario, has
		appealed for money and equipment.

These are good folks, doing a highly useful job - which makes the theft
all the more sickening. Rumor has it they've rented some equipment to
get going again, but they still need a lot of help. I looked up their
phone number - it's (416) 588-3843 in Toronto. Please call them if you
can help with equipment and/or information...

Thanks,
