[ont.general] Breakfast TV

cv@attcan.UUCP (CV) (10/16/89)

Those of you who watch Breakfast TV, on City TV weekdays from 7:00
to 9:00 am know that Steve Anthony brings a touch of humor to the
show everymorning by "putting Toronto on the map". He does his
segment of the show live from a different Toronto location everymorning.
So far he has been at the St. Lawrence Market, a day care centre,
on street corners, bus shelters, subway stations, in
somebody's home and cooked them breakfast, he really makes the show
that much more enjoyable.

Well, now he has been served with an injunction to prevent him from
going out on the streets or from what I understand on location. He has
asked for people to write in and say that they want Steve back on the streets.
He says that a massive demand for his return to the streets would help
City TV fight this battle.

If you want to help correct this injustice, please send me via e-mail
a quick lines that says "We want Steve Anthony back on the streets".
Include your name, address (I think your home address would probably
be better since you are not representing your employer in this statement)
and phone number. All this information is necessary
if we want them to take us seriously since we will have no actual signatures
like on a petition. I will gather all your responses, add a covering letter
explaining why we have no signatures and I will deliver this package in
person on Monday, October 23rd. Come on people, let's put Steve Anthony
back on the streets!

I will respond via these groups to let you know how many people responded.
If we get only 10 responses, it's still better than only one.

Thanks

Sigh. I barely understand how people tolerate Breakfast TV (on ANY
station), let alone why anyone would make a personal sacrifice of time
or a stamp to support it.

Most people I know don't have time in the morning to sit and stare at the
tube. They're in the shower, eating brekkie, reading e-mail or otherwise
preparing for whatever horrors or pleasures the coming day has in store.

So if the TV's on, nobody's watching it. The wasteland gets wasted.

Funny, but there's a medium that specializes in feeding you information
and a bit of humour without requiring you to look at it. Radio. Wonder
why morning is radio's Prime Time?

Wow. David Letterman late at night and a clone of him early in the morning.

Anthony couldn't succeed with his 'Letterman' ripoff shtick on radio, so
he's peddled it elsewhere.

For anyone to launch an injunction like this, Anthony must have done
something REALLY stupid or irritating. Why doesn't this surprise me?

Please explain the grounds of the injunction before asking people to
kneejerk to Anthony's defence.

The real injustice has been done by CITY to local viewers, in claiming
BT to be either informative or amusing. It's neither. CITY should consider
putting one of their more intellectual shows in this time slot ... like
Electric Circus.

Better on the streets than on the air...

I eat breakfast at 5:30. My morning news choices are CNN's Daybreak or
a version of CTV's nightly news (Taped Earlier).

Huh? What could he possibly have done? Or maybe I don't want to know.

I think I'll pass. If you get up a petition for CITY to stop their
mind-numbing three-ring 6 o'clock news merry-go-round, give me a call.

Ok, so I am a bleeding heart!

Ok, so I am paranoid about our rights!

I am truly sorry, but I found out that the LIVE EYE which is the
location taping truck was out of order and Steve Anthony was trying
to be funny because he was stuck indoors!

Well, I said he was wacky, I said he was funny (I am starting to
wonder about that?).

Sorry everyone and thanks for the interest. I promise I will not
be so easily fooled the next time (what next time? there WILL NOT
BE a next time).

Please do not hate me.

Chantal

He's a jerk. Need more proof than this?

Watch the radio. Better visuals.

In case anyone here at SQ was thinking of responding to this, be advised
that it was a joke. Half a dozen followups are already in our incoming queue.

  To each his/her own!

I read the paper in the morning in order to be informed, and watch
BT for the fun of it while getting ready to go to work. I enjoy
getting up in the morning and I like my work! I guess since I
don't prepare for the horrors of the day I have more time than you
  do for watching BT!!!
