[ont.general] Why Proteon over Cisco?

I know that when onet was originally set up the choice was Cisco for
router technology. Later, the network switched to Proteon. Could someone
please tell me why the change was made? Also, could someone please 
provide me with a contact at both Cisco and Proteon?
