[net.usenix] Traveling from USA to Canada

steffen@ihu1f.UUCP (06/17/83)

Having just made reservations to fly to Toronto for the USENIX conference,
a number of questions came to mind:

	1. I assume there is some minimal customs checking upon arrival in
Toronto. What kind of identification do I need? Is a driver's
license or voter's registration card sufficient, or should I bring
	my passport?

	2. Can you exchange US money for Canadian money in the airport?
Is the exchange rate OK? What is the current exchange rate?

I received this information in response to my query:

Current exchange rate is $.80 US for $1.00 Canadian.

No ID is needed if you are a US citizen.
A driver's licence is a good idea.
I recommend you get your money changed in
Canada where the exchange rate is usually
better than a US bank. Usually, banks are
better than the airport. If you are using
a US credit card, they will give you a fair
exchange.
