I sent an ECOM mail to the address given for PEMCO, and got back a polite hardcopy letter from the president of PEMCO, a Mr. John Dobbertin, Jr. I don't normally publish private letters without the consent of the sender, but in view of the short time between now and UniForum, and the fact that people might be making last-minute decisions based on information that is significantly incorrect, I think I am justified in doing so this time. Anyway, he knew he was writing for a semi-public forum. The following is excerpted from his letter to me. "There has been a great deal of conversation on the network... some of it accurately reflecting early planning discussions... some of it not correct. Here is the UniForum conference plan as it now stands: 1. There will be no tickets issued for the conference sessions held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. 2. Anyone may move from any session to any other session on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. 3. For joint conference sessions, we have the capability of seating 4,200 persons. That is more than twice as many persons as attended any past UNIX conference to our knowledge. 4. The tutorials on Tuesday are being handled as they have in past such events: Tickets are being issued to these six concurrent tutorials. Also, for the record, the exhibit area is approximately three-and-one-half times larger than the San Diego event held in January of 1983. I hope this answers your questions, and puts you at ease regarding arrangements for UniForum.'' (signed) John Dobbertin, Jr., President, Professional Exposition Management Company. ----- I guess that either he reads the network news, or somebody on the Board who does gave him hardcopies of all the discussion. It sure looks a lot better than it did a few weeks ago, doesn't it? -- Ian F. Darwin, Toronto uucp: utcsstat!ian
