I've seen a lot of articles about rogue lately (I play it too), but haven't seen much (anything) about the games of adventure or zork on the net. There must be people who still play these games. I have gotten all the way through adventure ("adventurer grandmaster", oooh) but have run into a few stumbling blocks playing zork. I have a few questions that I could use answers (hints?) to. Here are some of them: 1) How to get the sphere? 2) How to cross the rainbow? 3) What room is "Hello, sailor" useful? 4) What is the word that scares the cyclops? ("Sinbad" did in one version. 5) What is the curtain of light and its use? 6) What are the timbers good for? If there is anyone out there who would be interested in trading info, giving hints, or answering questions about these games, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Mike Hatch

By the way, where can I get a zork that runs on an 11/70 or 68000 under UNIX?? I am told that "dungeon" from one of the older usenix tapes is not zork. It certainly has no timbers, curtains of light, and so on (unless I just didn't get far enough). Also, has anyone written any adventures for "wander" from the psl games tape? I am getting tired of the ones that came with the distribution, and would like "fresh meat" so ot speak. (Not to imply that they weren't fun!) --Berry Kercheval Zehntel Inc.

I use to play zork (called dungeon on the system used), but haven't played it since last year or so. I have won the silly game, but the version used did not have an endgame! (This is the decus version) If I remember WHERE the sphere is, you could get a solution from me. Mail me your questions and I will research them. Please give me the NAME of the room, since this will probably spark my memory. Ciao.

I can answer (more or less) two of your questions -- The rainbow can be made solid by waving a wand at it. But I don't remember where to find the wand. "Ulysses" is the cyclops' enemy. Sorry 'bout the rest -- it's been two years. Chris Kent, Purdue CS

The wand is the stick which you find near the boat. Beware of the stick, because if you are holding it when boarding the boat, the boat will deflate. (It has been two years (there abouts) since I had been playing heartly at the game) If I could only send that map I have/had. Live Long And Prosper, Philip L. Wing U.C. at Berkeley

But even if you puncture the boat, all is not lost - assuming you've found the patch kit. (Or haven't flooded the control room yet.) =Spencer
